Its a tough call. There is the personal side, and the business side. He's playing extremely well, and you hope he's in a good head space. But you can't guarantee that and he has a recent history of requiring that time away. I think a 1 year deal, not so much a prove it, but a "let's make sure you're in a good space" deal would work and given he's had 2 years at $2.5M where he played maybe a 1/4 of that contract its fair to the Flames and to Oliver who has expressed his gratitude and loyalty to the team. Play the year, take it day by day and talk long term extension a year from then. No more added pressure to what has already been a tough go of it.
