I really kinda hope that what Conroy prioritizes with the cap space is signing your guys longterm to deals that may be overpays in years 1-3 when it does not matter and your are not competitive with the hopes that they are deals in years 4-8.

If they are confident this offseason that Zary is going to be a 60+ point forward sign him to a 8 year 40 million dollar deal this offseason if his agent is willing. Does not hurt you in the first couple years because you have more cap space than you can use but could be a killer deal in a 105 million dollar cap world in 2028.

If you think Kylington can be a top 4 dman offer him a similar type deal for the same reasons.

Rinse and repeat the process on any young guys you think are part of your longterm core with the hope that you end up with value contracts in your outlying years. If you need more proof that they are part of the core sign them to shorter deals like the Pospisil one. Only after you have locked in the young guys do you go UFA hunting.
