Are folks thinking we retain because NJ is capped out or because Markstrom is overpaid?

Capped out => NJ have a lot of LTIR space from Dougie's cap hit i think from looking at CF. They have room next year although i didn't dig into who needs to be re-signed.

Overpaid => $6mm for a top goalie is not overpaid i don't think. Saros is $5mm and younger, so relative to him i guess. But versus what else a team needing a solid goalie could obtain on July 1 or via trade? Markstrom's cap hit isn't far off of what he is worth and his rarity. He has 472 NHL games. Rinne finished with 683, Hallebuyck has 485, Ryan Miller had 700 games behind him when he was solid for Vancouver. Markstrom has more left in the tank.

If they want us to retain for three years, we are right to ask for a lot for that as it's a favour to them. Not us.
