The sarcastic rant is always such a welcome addition to a civilized conversation.

GMs deal in a market. Within that market they make decisions. Sometimes they make the best decision available in a weak market. Sometimes they completely mess up and take a less package because they (and their management team) over value a prospect or a returning player.

Draft picks are on the scouting team.

But to deem a GM as getting fleeced you need one of two things in my mind.

1) Knowledge of other options or paths not taken
2) Recent comparables that suggest what the market was at the time.

The Toffoli trade didn't afford us #1, but we certainly got a good dose of #2 with no first rounders traded at the draft and serviceable players given away for cap space.

The Lindholm and Hanifin trades will exist in and around a trade deadline with other comparables.

If he deals both for 2nd rounders when comparable players go for 1st rounders you'll have a point! He was wrong by either confusing the value of a 2nd vs a 1st or more seriously tried to out wait a market and missed the opportunity because those assets went somewhere else.
