Sutter did say Tkachuk gave off lonely vibes and didn't have much to do outside of the rink, so I'd believe him leaning towards leaving in the last year or so, but I don't think it was "planned" as early as that contract being inked.
I think that's people projecting because its an easy conclusion to settle on. To write it off as Calgary never stood a chance of retaining him because he plotted right from the start to get back to murica is easier to stomach.
