The best thing for the Flames though would be getting rid of the next 5 years of the Kadri contract. Not being locked into that deal will be helpful when they hopefully have some high end youngsters coming off ELC that need long term big money extensions

Johansen is a spent force, one good year in the last 4 and it does not look like this year will be any different. That being said I would still probably do the deal given what Kadri will likely be in the final 2-3 years of that deal when hopefully the Flames are starting to compete again.
