The Jackets are taking on $21M more and 2 extra years for a player who has been worse over a longer sample size. Maybe a late 1st is too rich but this team paid a 1st to dump 1 year and $6.375M of Monahan. Maybe if they had the same term left the Flames could retain the difference and it makes sense but with 2 more years of term for guys who are the same age I think a significant sweetener would need to be added
