I think he is open to staying and I think the direction of the team matters.
Look at Aho, signed offer sheet years ago and then resigned in Carolina. He mentions this is the best team on paper they have had since he's been there. He stayed when it looked like he didn't want to be there 5 years ago.
Lindholm signs 8 years and the Flames dump Hanifin, Backlund and Tanev and start a rebuild he might want out right after signing. It's not the best spot to be in if your committed 9 more years to a team going into a rebuild.
