Not trading Lindholm actually gives this team more info from the level of play at the beginning of the season. It lets both managment and Lindholm know if you can have a winning team with Lindholm as a part of it.
Waiting also might create a desperate team, due to injury, cap space, you name it. If the offers right now are lower than what the team thinks he's worth at the deadline, then why make a move simply to make a move? Setting any sort of public deadline only helps other teams to low ball you. That's what happened with Conroy's statement about not going into next season with 7 UFA's.
In a similar situation, we didn't get good value in the Bouwmeester trade, because we were in a rush, we could've hung on to him a bit longer, and gotten better value. As it stands we have nothing to show for it.
