Quite the contrary. It shows people processing their empathy in an alternative way.
To think of the tragic nightmare that may be unfolding gives me so much anxiety I can barely stand it, because it wraps nearly all of my phobias into a precise package.
However, the total absurdity of nearly every element of this tragedy lends itself to humour. I'm not going to make a joke because it's all been pretty well covered, but as a guy who can't empathize with these people without panicking a little the levity is fine.
If it makes anyone less uncomfortable, no matter the outcome these folks aren't going to read this thread.
