The braintrust that was "really impressed" with Dave Nonis picked Conroy to be GM. Hardly a ringing endorsement.
And that same braintrust hasn't accomplished anything of note in NHL management over the course of a 30+ year career. He's only here because his protege gave him a job. It certainly wasn't through merit.
I sure hope Conroy is a brilliant hockey mind and leads this franchise back into being a perennial competitor. I really do.
But it will only be as a result of a Maloney fluke. Sorry if I'm skeptical.
