Treliving must have given them an explanation. I doubt he just said he was leaving without any kind of statement. I also doubt that Maloney would just state something so specific, like that he didn't expect him to take another job immediately, if it wasn't what they were led to believe. I think Maloney knew exactly why Treliving didn't want to return (terrible ownership) but would not say something negative about his team at a press conference.
