The Flames aren't contending for anything for the foreseeable future, so start restocking now.
A complete overhaul is not in the works. You don't go into a rebuild with five picks in each of the next three drafts, especially when there is already nothing in the pipeline. recouping some middling picks is not going to achieve the depth needed to be successful.

Okay, so you trade Lindholm for a couple of picks, likely a late first and a possible mid round pick. Those picks are going to take five years before they bear fruit and become a consistent contributor to the team if they make it at all. You have to appreciate the pipeline has run dry. You're developing a couple of players here and there, which is what got us in this mess. To do what your suggesting we need to burn the place to the ground. We need to get rid of every single one of Treliving's mistakes (contracts) and hope we can get those high picks we need to build a solid lineup. As previously mentioned, we've sold off a number of our picks and would only really be helping other teams draft early.

Exactly. Unless the new GM is given the greenlight to go scorched earth the team is better off to ride it out until all of Treliving's gaffs are off the books and we control our own draft capital. We still have some players about to promote that should help keep us competitive over the next four to five years, then we're at the point where we should be able to take a run at restocking the system by selling off the vets. I don't see that time as now because we'd just be wasting Pelletier, Zary, Coronato, Wolf, Poirier and possibly the two Russian defensemen. The gap that exists in the system means we need to ride it out.
