I think Sutter is a good coach with the right personal,; But to have better success Sutter needs a few guys with elite skill to make his system work. I think bringing Sutter back and trying to patch things up is too risky. What happens if we have another year of the same? You are not going to entice quality players to come here that way. I would promote Conroy, move Treliving upstairs and bring in Mitch Love. At least you have a whole team working together and Conroy can lean on Trelivings experience. Treliving knows the Flames personal and he would likely support Conroy"s vision. It is a lot easier to tell ownership that this is what Conroy would like to do, as opposed to Treliving asking for it for himself. I think working closer to Edwards in this way would allow a more dynamic team, that would lean away from a "win now" approach while embracing a more traditional team building concept.
Lots of problems and issue we see can be resolved through communication,; If Edwards believes in Treliving then he is going to support him. That is only good business. If Treliving were to move up, I believe he would have much more control over those areas that were difficult for him to access.previously. Moving up would be an excellent career move for Treliving and could lead to other opportunities in the future at the NHL level.
