Once Calgary wasn't in a position to offer him an 8 year contract at an acceptable money, he took the bridge deal to put himself in the best possible position to cash in.
The Tkachuks have always been about money and security. I have little doubt he would have signed on if offer an 8- year deal with big money. Once he also had the option of getting to choose his place and money, that was a different matter.
