Conversate is the informal version of converse, they mean exactly the same thing.
As far as what's simpler, yeah, one of the things we try to focus on is not being too bloody wordy, and instead make our use of language more accessible to a wider range of people. When your goal is to get a message across to as many people as possible and have them
understand it, simple language is generally better. Even in our technical documentation, we have validation tests that run against our PRs before merging to make sure that the language we use isn't too formal (eg: preferring contractions versus the full phrase [wasn't vs was not]).
