Coaching system is fine. Players are also buying in because execution of the game plan is mostly fine. Goaltending shaky and goals against rattle the team in general more then they should.

22 games since Jan 1.
Points in 14 of those.

2-5 in OT in that time and 3 of those 5 OT losses shouldn't have gone to OT (Vegas, Sens and St. L, maybe even Chicago as well) because the Flames were in control but didn't get rewarded for the dominant performance they had. Toss in a Flyers regulation loss that defies logic and same with one of the Detroit games as well.

That's at least 5 more points, very easily, and as many as 9. Moreso then the points, winning the Flyers game, and Sens game looked in the bag but losing that gives the confidence a shake for the next time, and we are seeing that snowball effect now. Team confidence would be at another level or two higher than it is and you wouldn't see those collapses against Vegas occur (and Phoenix they proved they can push back when down) and then a setback vs a good Avs team wouldnt be as dire as it seems.

So, it's some killer instinct and execution. Sutter's game plan seems to be fine and buy in from players for the most part is there. Clanging of posts and not burying the opportunities they have generated is the critical part that is missing and below average goaltending and the timing of the below average goaltended is mentally draining this team and it's confidence slowly but surely.
