He had a desperate team needing to save face and the Flames offered a spectacular deal for a player likely to start his aging curve soon.
No guarantee that the flames if fighting for a playoff spot would even trade him.
After this season, as a UFA, he would be getting quite a bit less.
Maybe not $10.5M? That’s for sure.
