No, that's not what whataboutism means. Whataboutism is taking a point and bringing up an unrelated issue. You brought up the existence and threat of death from cold here, and he countered directly with heat related deaths here.

You also flippantly brushed it off as "one heat wave" when he clearly mentioned 66 deaths in ONE WEEK, when there are 30-40 hypothermia deaths per year in Alberta. It jives with what I've seen from following the news, that you're much more likely to die from heat related deaths in Alberta than cold related deaths.
