"The initial tests performed on Ryan's arm by Toronto's medical staff didn't indicate any structural damage, according to Ricciardi. Still, the Jays' GM said he couldn't rule out the possibility that the left-hander might have to undergo Tommy John elbow-ligament replacement surgery -- an operation that would effectively end Ryan's season. Yep, the word right now is that Johnson could potentially face season-ending back surgery. I feel Lind is more than capable of picking up the offensive load from Johnson (he was good enough last season down the stretch plus in the pre-season to deserve a regular spot in the lineup) but the Jays get a heck of a lot weaker defensively with Johnson out.
Oh well, I really like Lind so it will be nice to see him get his career jump-started (if Johnson opts for the surgery). It's really a shame though, Johnson is a warrior and this is his first chance to really lock down a regular spot in the major leagues.
