Both are likely in line for deals in the 8x8 range and likely could cost the same as the combined 16.75M the Flames will pay Huberdeau and Weegar.
Would you rather the Flames sign those guys to 8x8 type deals or if they could would you trade them, a pick and a prospect for a 24-25 year old top end player?
Florida took 2 guys they either had to give 8 year deals to next summer or let walk for nothing, an average prospect and a future protected 1st for a 24 year old franchise winger.

Depends if the goal is to win or be average for longer...Panthers were the best team in the NHL and should have ran it back IMO. How many teams have we seen own the regular season and then choke in the playoffs only to run it back and get over the hump. Tampa, Colorado, ect.
Sure they have Tkachuk playing as well as possible and likely as well as he ever will yet they are a bubble team with no first round picks for what 3 years? I highly doubt they get back to being a high end team anytime soon.
