I mean, I think we can all agree speed limits, income taxes and seatbelts are important, even vital measures required for the greater good of society. Sometimes for personal safety (seatbelts), sometimes for public safety (speed limits) and sometimes for our government and country to function (income taxes).
But you’re gonna sit here and pretend that anything government mandated should just be voluntary? And that if everyone doesn’t do it already, then government intervention is stupid?
Would you pay taxes if it wasn’t voluntary? Of course you wouldn’t. Neither would most people. But we all agree income taxes are necessary for our government and social programs to function. Almost as if a huge majority of people would be in favour of income taxes but on the same token, we absolutely need the government to mandate it to keep everyone honest and paying.
