I totally disagree and think you are mischaracterizing it. She wasn't mentioning it as a new thing or as a way for people to cut things in their life - she was simply saying that like all mothers and wives across Canada she has to look at her budget and find things that might not have the same value anymore. In her case it was Disney+, in my case it was Sportsnet, in someone else's house it is one less Starbucks, in someone else's case it is no name ketchup instead of brand name.
There is nothing in what she said that is supposed to say "hey it's tough times so try doing this" - what she said is that "hey it's tough times for everyone and everyone is trying different things to make ends meet, for me it was this."
