Florida would be in a really good position if they didn’t have Bobrovsky signed to the deal that they do. If you were to look at their roster with Barkov, Tkachuk, Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett, Lundell and Knight all being in place it’s a pretty good core. Mix that in with the fact that they do have a massive free agent advantage and they should be pretty well positioned to win…but they’re saddled with a $10M goalie who doesn’t look to perform all that well come playoff time. That’s a poison pill.
Losing Weegar also really does not help…oh and not having a first round pick for what? 5 straight seasons? Yeah that’s going to catch up to them.

It sounds like they really like Tkachuk for his media presence as well. They're trying to grow the sport down their, and having him on their team will help with that. They want him trash talking Tampa Bay, and getting up to hi-jinks with his brother in the same division. If he can get rivalries going down their like he did here with Doughty and Kassian, that'll get more people talking about the Panthers. I think that's worth more to them than a slight higher chance of winning the cup.
