I have this expectation that the Oilers are actually going to miss the playoffs next year. And that's not a guess, that's a spoiler.

If Mcload gets $1 mil that puts them 700k over the cap with 12 F 7 D and 2G. This is assuming Smith and Klefbom go on LTIR
Options
Send Broberg down and get 100k under the cap (assuming Mcleod doesn't get more than a mil). Slater Koekkoek would be an every day dman. Keith out for him is a is a huge downgrade for them IMO. Also they would be a mess roster wise only having 20 guys up. Someone gets hurt they would have to go on IR
Trade Foegele? His numbers in his role are ok so maybe someone takes him but he's basically an ok 4th liner making nearly $3 mil. My guess it takes a pick to get rid of him. Buyout is an option but his contract was actually backloaded. The biggest cap savings is this year and then it gets worse each year.
Trade Barrie? They might be able to get a 2nd for him but then they lose Barrie. Bouchard is an RFA and no Barrie equals massive contract for Bouchard next summer. They currently have 12 guys signed and $17.5 mil space (Barrie removed) with Skinner, Puljujarvi, probably McLeod and Bouchard as RFAs. If they set up for Bouchard to get $7 mil or more they will be in worse shape next summer. Cap goes up a mil they will have $18.5 mil but if Bouchard goes on that top PP unit I could see 60+ points. He will look at Nurse contract and think why should I take less than $9 mil
The Ken Holland cap management is starting to take full form here. They have 896k in cap overages from last year as well. It's safe to assume that will happen again this year
