I get what you’re saying. But before yesterday, Tkachuk had no contract. Huberdeau has 1 year left at a very good cap hit. Who’s to say an extension couldn’t be hammered out before the trade, just like Tkachuk? If it could, he’s more valuable to more teams because 5.9 mil for this year is much more palatable. Not too mention, the Flames could also eat 50% this year. Lots of options.
