This my line of thinking as well. Feels very heavily weighted towards 2023, with a group that’s not even as good as last season. So that should temper expectations right there. The scenario that the Flames keep an un-signed Huberdeau and Weager for a playoff run and then lose them for nothing to free agency does exist which I agree, would look disastrous.
Although, the one silver lining that I’ve seen is that if the Flames look out of it by the TDL, Huberdeau and Weager could fetch a bounty in which case all the pieces obtained from the Tkachuk deal could amount to quite a bit. Although the pieces would look more so quantity over quality, which isn’t preferred, but would be acceptable.
