I'm sure they interviewed him, if they didn't they better scouts, I just question how deep they dove into that talk. It seems the kid had one team on his mind, not just one country on his mind. Should have been a red flag.

Not Gaudreau, but possibly Fox. We're in a world now where you really have to know everything about the assets you're bringing into the mix. The combine has become an important aspect of the draft now, and the opportunity to talk with these kids becomes just that much more important. Possibly requires new skills for scouts to use in their evaluation of talent. I would be extremely hesitant to draft Americans that have no connection or knowledge of Canada. Americans who play junior hockey? Yeah, take them if they interview well. Americans who played only in the American bubble? I would be hesitant as a Canadian team.
