At the end of the day it’s a blessing in disguise. If he wanted an exorbitant amount to stay with the team it would be a terrible move long and short term. The most idea situation in hindsight was to deal him for assets but that’s 20/20. It’s now about what the Flames do. If Brad starts signing anyone to a big contract especially with a big term, you know ownership has their head up their butts. This team desperately needs to draft a new core and the time to start is now. Retooling when Malkin is off the table is a terrible idea and only puts off the inevitable. Start now in a good draft year.
