If Makar doesn’t have possession of the puck then he is at least attempting to gain possession, even if he himself is not yet in the offensive zone. According to that line that should trigger the play to be live and Nuke to be offside.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that is a completely non-sensical interpretation. By your logic, no one can ever skate towards the offensive zone if the puck and a player is inside. That is nonsense.
