Flames were 41.6% xGF in that series in 18/19. We had a .917 save percentage which kept things closer (I don't like Mike Smith but he was great in that series) but in the end we got what we deserved.
This year it's 52.4% xGF in the series and really in a fair world it's probably 2-2. Instead though we have a .852 save percentage as a team, and have given up 20 goals against in 4 games.
Outcome is similar but the path to getting their is much different. Flames were the clearly better team in game 1, Oilers the better team in Game 3. Game 2 and Game 4 were toss ups. Unfortunately the Flames have lost both of the 50/50 toss up games in this series, and a big part of that is Smith has made more saves in big moments than Markstrom has, and the Oilers special teams have been better.

I agree with everything, except for game 4 being a toss up. My opinion is that the Flames played a much better team game last night, unfortunately a couple defensive lapses and some sub-par goaltending led to the loss.
Not pinning the loss on the goalie directly, but the Flames have played 11 playoff games so far. In how many was Markstrom the best goalie?
