Joe Thornton has signed, in the last 2 years, a $700K and $750K contract. Similar deals: Spezza, Chara, Perry, Yandle, Parise. For the most part, these are to stay with a team (or return) or to go home like Spezza. Or sometimes to play for a top team for a last kick. Yeah, no chance he goes from 6.75 to 1 million. He can get 2 to 3 million on a one year deal. I agree if he drags out his career after that then something close to 1 million is possible.
