In this day in age, would Great Britain really resist too hard if N. Ireland democratically wanted to unify with the Republic of Ireland? I am unfamiliar with how important N. Ireland is to the Great Britain economy, but from the religion angle, it seems moot. The Anglican and Catholic Churches are on good terms. I believe the Monarchy even rescinded the ban on Catholics being able to reign, which was obviously more symbolic than anything.

As long as there isn't a violent uprising, I doubt Britain would stand in their way.
