OK I'll add my 2 cents

your problem most likely lies in the valve. Things to check for

Solinoid (the thing where the wires are connected for lack of better explanation) make sure it is hand tight if it isn't this will cause your valve to stay open

Bleed screw - if there is a small plastic screw on the top of the valve tighten it up not all valves have this

If that hasn't solved your problem

Inside the valve there is a diaphragm it may not be "seating" correctly or it may have debris or a rip or tear in it. Open the top of the valve, after turning of f the water of course, and inspect the diaphragm

Generally the clock will not have anything to do with a valve staying open but if you want to check it out unplug the timer (no power no open valve)
