It was a malevolent tar-like entity names Armus, who struck her and she died. Riker was swallowed by Armus, but didn't die.
But then she came back in a changed history episode and went back in time to the Enterprise C, to help preserve peace with the Klingons, was assumed dead, but was captured by Romulans and gave birth to her daughter Sela, who looked just like her with pointy ears.
Tasha was then killed escaping when Sela gave her away, and Sela grew up to try to take over the Klingon Enemy by funneling weapons and ships to the Duras family, but was stopped by the Federation sensor net.
Then, she captured Spock and Data and Picard when Spock was on Romulus trying to unify Vulcans and Romulans.
