Roberts was 31 the year he made his comeback. There are a lot of details being glossed over in his story. He had his surgery while a Flame and after a pretty successful comeback season, decided to retire because of the the pain and the fact his surgery wasn’t to his own satisfaction. His retirement involved a lot of therapy, to the point he decided to try again, but he still was nervous and that’s why he wanted a trade to a team with less travel. And in a few years he needed more surgery and missed half a season.
It’s not really the example Eichel fans would be looking for.
