If things are going well in Philly which it appears they are of late under AV, why would they go out of their way to move a big contract player just to be a bidder in the Gaudreau sweepstakes (if it happens), just cause they have a hunch Gaudreau would want to come home and take what they'd be willing to offer?
Easy to come to the idea from afar, but not every situation plays out like a Tavares-Toronto storybook outcome. Its just not that simple. So many things play into it. And it's based on the assumption that a team that already employs a Konecny in its top six has an appetite for a Gaudreau also.
The more you think about it beyond a surface level and scratch the practical aspects of it, the less likely it seems.
The whole narrative seems more fear driven than anything concrete.
