I had disc replacement surgery a number of years ago, though for myself it was in my lower back. That said, my surgeon advised during one of our consults that one of his patients who had similar surgery returned to rodeo bull riding. So it is possible to return to physical and demanding activity, though it’s certainly not to suggest it’s a lock for anyone nor a guarantee.
Your concerns and predictions are absolutely valid all the same and could just as easily prove correct.
