However I will concede that in my angle it’s hard to tell what caused the trip, unclear if foot or stick. Legally or illegally Tanev caused him to crash into Markstrom however.

Since it was McDavid’s sudden change of direction that caused the incidental contact with Tanev’s leg, he is responsible for the contact and for its consequences to himself and to Markstrom. IMO as the game gets faster the risk of serious injuries in this kind of situation will increase astronomically. It’s time the NHL made players responsible for moving at a speed at which they can control their movement when heading toward another player, in the same way that they are responsible for controlling their sticks.
