Seems harsh, these are just scrimmages.

Pelletier get's a pass as a first year pro.
It's the prospects that have been in the system for a while that were supposed to be pushing for a position on the big club. Yeah, Matthew Phillips gets singled out. As does Ruzicka. Add in Froese, Gawdin, and anyone else that has been in the AHL for the past couple of seasons. This was their moment to step up and show what they have. If they took them as "just scrimmages" they're ####ing idiots and don't deserve any more time as a professional. When you're in the minors every time you take to your position you better be giving it your all, because you're playing for your livelihood. You only get so many opportunities to stand out, and you better do something to do so. What the Flames AHL players did these past two games is show they have nothing to offer and are in capable of standing out when given a shot to show what they have. If you can't stand out against lineups of other AHL plugs, you don't deserve the opportunity to try and stand out against NHL talent.
You may think this is harsh, but this is the reality these guys face. These are the very games where they need o stand up and be a stand out. No one that was not on the Flames roster for more than 10 games last season looked worthy of continuing on in the evaluation process. It has been an underwhelming and very disappointing performance after all the hype that was built up over certain players. Send them packing and get on with the business of building a cohesive unit for the season opener.

It's just two games, but it's not just two games. These guys have been around for a while. This was their opportunity to shine. This was their opportunity to show they were the cream of the crop over their peer group and they are worthy of being included with the NHL roster for the rest of camp. You only get so many opportunities to perform, so you better show the #### up and get the job done. What we saw was an embarrassing performance in back-to-back games. Sutter and the rest of the brass can't be happy with what they saw and shouldn't be bothered to waste more cycles on players who can't even shine against their minor league peer group. There's two weeks to the start of the NHL season. Time to get down to the business of building a team ready to play in game one.
