No, it doesn't. Your point would stand if there was anything translatable from any NHL team's pre-season record into their regular season performance ever. But there is not. Great teams sometimes look awful in the pre-season. Sometimes they look fine. Terrible teams sometimes look like they will never lose a game in the preseason; sometimes they look awful.
There is virtually no way to make any sort of meaningful assessment about either the Flames or the Oilers fortunes this season after watching this game. None.
