I was thinking about this yesterday on the drive home. I never paid any attention to them for federal or provincial elections because there are so few candidates and it's easy to remember who's who. But for civic elections where there are many more candidates and many more positions (mayor, councilor, school board) there may be some value in signs for the candidate just for name recognition at the ballot box.
Also on the topic of signs I have seen Davidson and Farkas signs popping up in Tuscany recently. I honestly can say I have not seen a Gondek sign in Tuscany or anywhere else along my commute for that matter.
