Well that's one way to spin it I guess. He picked several players that were "who?" level picks. Just some mind numbingly bad selections. The team could have been much better if he picked NHL talent instead of some guys that hope to be NHL bubble players some day. Even if he turned those players into draft picks through trades they would be better off.

Calgary only has 3 top 4 D at best right now, plus lack of depth at RW

Yup, we agree, the Flames are a hot mess. But Treliving did not have a free crack at taking a player from each team in the league, and managed to screw that up. Both teams have time to make changes and improve their roster. I think Seattle has a much easier go in fixing their roster, but it actually could have been that much easier if Francis hasn't whiffed on a few picks. Unless there are some significant assets coming his way tomorrow, he left some pretty good players that could have been used as assets to further improve the team. What would you say if Treliving selected Pitlick, Twarynski, Blackwell, Cholowski, Bayreuther, True, Quenneville, and Geekie? Good selections?

Also, of every single team in the NHL , Calgary got worse today than any other

No, that honor still goes to Edmonton. A team that didn't even have a three top four defensemen lost one AND signed Mike Smith to an extension. The Flames lost their captain, but according to the pundits this team was in dire need of new leadership. I think we will get over the loss of Gio quick enough.
