The contract situation is a concern, but only because of $$.
As a player though, he will do what he has always done. for more than the abberation the first half of this season was.
It boggles me how much people have turned on this guy in such a short time.
He is a great NHL player. Top 50 in the entire league offensively since he entered, 6th among LW's and that is with this anchor of a season included.
Then add in all the intangibles. Dude is upper tier.

I'm more concerned that the fire seems to be gone. Ever since the Muzzin incident, the scrums, the agitation is gone.
The puck skills I'm not worried about.
I didn't turn on him, because even after last season, his contract worried me. I've always been concerned with his skating and committing an $8 million plus long term contract to a guy who can't skate.
He could still evolve into Mark Stone so if he can pick up his defensive game, then that big contract won't be that bad. But I want to see more from him. I need to see that ####disturber back and I need to see the improvement on the defensive side before I'd want to commit to a big contract.
