The Devils are in no better shape.
Yay for them for their high draft picks, nothing has come of it.
The majority of people on this board can't handle a single rough season like this one without some major freaking out, could you imagine if we were having seasons like the Devils or Buffalo has had for the last decade or so?

Only a Flames fan could call the Flames' recent results "pretty consistent success." Yes, I'd take the Devils roster over the Flames. They're certainly not world beaters right but they have blue chip talent coming the ranks, a plan, and consistent execution of that plan. I'd bet on them competing for a cup faster than we will.
The majority of this board can't handle this season because many people saw the problems coming. The team has been stagnant since Jan 2019 and other teams have improved. The GM has sat on his hands and made sideways deals to keep the Flames in our classic 15th-25th place position. We're saddled with declining assets, bloated contracts, and few prospects. I doubt people would have much to criticize if the management announced a plan to actually get us competing for championships openly and stuck to it.
It's pretty amazing how the vast majority of sports franchises have figured out that the way to compete for a championship in the North American league system is to go through cycles of tanking and competing. Yet the Flames soldier on, mediocre for 30 years, patching holes with draft picks, making sideways deals while our talent level gets outpaced by other teams around us. We fight for a chance to get knocked out of the first round. But hey, why fix what's not broken?
