Scoring in the league has gone up. If I were to guess, this season goals per game league wide has to be around ~6. So in order to win, you'll need to score at least 3 goals to have a chance. With how inept the offense is on the roster, there's just waaaay too much reliance on the goaltending being outstanding each and every game, and letting in less than 3 goals on average against. That's just not possible with the game now. You gotta be able to score enough to actually win games, not the other way around in don't give up goals to not lose them.
The Flames offensive talent is sunk the competitive potential of the team. They just are awful offensively, and can't confidently get a goal each period.
