* Gaudreau has lost a step and is unwilling or unable to fight through tight checking.
* Monahan’s development stalled out as a one-dimensional sniper who can’t carry out any of the non-sniping roles of a centre.
* Gaudreau and Monahan’s deficiencies without the puck means they get caved in 5 on 5 and present a serious matchup problem for the Flames.
* Giordano’s play has dropped off a cliff, as would be expected for any player of his age.
* Backlund is a good defensive centre but is streaky offensively and can’t be relied on to provide secondary scoring when the Monahan line gets shut down.
* For all his skill and emotion, Tkachuk has not shown an ability to have a big impact in important games.
* The leadership group has not shown the ability to step up in crunch time.
All of this has been known to Flames brass since at least the Avs series. They didn’t need Sutter to come in and diagnose the roster.
