No way that a player can run faster than they can skate if they are both professionals. That is ridiculous. I think you're forgetting how small a basketball court is compared to a hockey rink. Yes, basketball can go end to end faster than hockey but the length of the court is less than 50% of an ice sheet and slightly over 50% on width. Plus hockey is an alternating one legged balancing act while the puck is manipulated at the end of a six foot stick. I bet the average speed of a puck exceeds the average speed of a basketball in play.
