That kind of structure needs a lot of trust, or you end up looking silly. If that trust falls down the pinch stops and the opposition exits easily.

Agreed, I said it in the GT when it happened but the Gio pinch was fine.
Backlund was in position to cover but misread the play somehow and hesitated or went the wrong direction and didn't cover properly, but the pinch was fine even if the puck got past him.
