I'm pretty sure he would be the smallest guy in the league........easily. He is closer to being a jockey's weight than that of even an average NHL player.

He may have a niche role on the right team with the right line up, but that is not this club as currently constructed.
Why can’t he play on a line with Lucic and Bennett for example? If you're worried about his size isn't that the perfect spot to work him in the lineup.

He’s a small guy but he doesn’t play small. His size has not impeded him at all in the AHL which if anything is a bigger league than the NHL size wise nowadays.

And even then how does it hurt to give him a game? If he’s too small you send him back down.

This type of mindset is why teams pass on guys like Brayden Point in the draft and it’s so outdated.

Great tweet by Darren Haynes shows what he can bring, even makes a pretty nice hit on Nick Robtertson to win the puck back on the forecheck https://twitter.com/DarrenWHaynes/st...7Ctwgr%5Etweet

18-19: 38 points in 65 games (AHL)
19-20: 33 points in 38 games (AHL)

Player B:
17-18: 109 points in 56 games (OHL)
18-19: 43 points in 47 games (AHL)
19-20: 15 points in 16 games (AHL)

Player C:
17-18: 64 points in 40 games (WHL)
18-19: 18 points in 27 games (AHL)
19-20: 16 points in 23 games (AHL)

Player A is Matthew Phillips, Player B is Kyrou, Player C is Yamamoto.

Kyrou and Yamamoto are helping their teams in top 6 roles, yet Phillips can’t even get a game in the NHL on the Flames roster, while guys like Simon, Nordstrom, Ritchie, Robinson, etc all get multiple looks of doing nothing.

On a team that desperately needs a top 9 RW why not give Phillips a shot? Sure he’s small but you don’t know if he can adapt until he gets a shot. The skill is clearly there, and his size hasn’t hurt him at the AHL level.

Once again it’s the coach and GM just being afraid to give a young guy a shot because it might lead to a mistake.
Made this post in another thread but it fits in here too. His production has been great at every level, and guys with similar production are helping out at this level, no reason to not give him a shot to see if he can translate it to the next level.
